For this assignment; the objective was to show examples in pictures of all the principals of design. There were nine different elements to shoot, and a picture and brief definition was required for each principal. This assignment was worked on for about a week.
Balance- Visual weight of objects are distributed equally within a photo.
Movement- Gives the artist control over what the viewer sees next.
Repetition- A thing repeated over and over again.
Emphasis- Attracts attention to a certain element or area.
Visual Economy (Simplicity)- The omitting of all non-essential or unimportant elements and details which don't really emphasize what is important.
Contrast- Positioning of opposing components in a work of art.
Proportion: How two or more elements compare to each other in any way.
Space- Distance or area between, around, above, below, or within shapes and forms within a composition.
Unity- The design elements work together to give the viewer a sense of belonging and relationship.
I learned in this assignment how to take pictures of each principal of design, and also what each term meant. I also learned to be more creative and think about what to take pictures of, ahead of time.
